Student Council
The Oakwood Elementary Student Council is made up of four members, each considered a class representative. The students spend several weeks in the fall campaigning for one of the four positions. On election day, each sixth grader heads to the polls to vote for the candidates he/she feels will best lead the class. Jan Commers, from the Paulding County Election board, brings in an actual voting booth for the day and educates the students on the voting procedures.
The Oakwood Elementary Student Council meets once a month to organize activities and to brainstorm solutions to problems students in sixth grade are facing. The Council sponsors Spirit Days on the last Friday of each month. They hold a fund raiser or two each year to raise money which is used to purchase something for Oakwood Elementary. These students organize a school-wide penny pitch each year for a local or national charity. They also plan and decorate for the sixth grade dance in May.
The Sixth Grade Student Council has many responsibilities and handle them with positive leadership skills! They are a fantastic group of kids to work with!
